YARN REVIEW - BERNAT WAVERLY YARN
I stumbled upon this new Bernat Waverly yarn at my local Jo-Ann store the other day. I was so intrigued, mainly because the colors were so...well, Waverly-inspired! There aren't many of these colors out there available for off-the-shelf purchase. I picked up a skein and was surprised how soft the yarn was. The colors are marketed for home-use, and easily combined for endless color combinations. But, my eye saw many hat variations, as well. I was particularly excited, because I have been looking for a specific color combination for my "Dino-Mite" dinosaur hat and found the colors in this Bernat line.
I used the colors "Aqua Frost" for the body and "Greek Sea" for the spots. The spikes are a different type of yarn.
The price point at my local Jo-Ann store is $3.27, but on-line vendors have the yarn listed a bit higher. I used 40% off coupons for both skein colors I purchased, so, experimenting with the yarn was well worthwhile. Compared to the Lion Brand "Vanna's Choice", I prefer the Bernat Waverly line because of the softness and texture.
To see all the colors available, go to http://www.yarnsupply.com/bernat-waverly-yarn.html. They also listing the yarn at $3.29 per skein...not a bad deal.
The yarn details are as follows:
100% acrylic
3-1/2 oz. (100 grams) 197 yards
Medium Weight #4
Suggested crochet hook: H8
Dyelotted
Machine Wash and Dry

Very cute hat! My 4 year old grandson is dino crazy - loves to watch Dino Dan! He's asked me to knit him some dinosaurs - I told him I'd have to go to Dinosaur Knitting School first as I'm a real novice! I agree with you about preferring Bernat over Vanna's Choice! She needs to revamp that one asap! It is also kind of fuzzy once knitted. Waverly is so much softer - a silkier feel for sure! Love it.
